Amery Boyer, founder The Human Element

Amery Boyer, BMus, MBA


Amery Boyer is the Owner of The Human Element, a bilingual organizational design and human asset management business, that has been operating since April 1996. She is also the editor of the Atlantic version of The Human Resources Advisor, a human resources reference manual published by First Reference of Mississauga.

Amery graduated from the University of Ottawa and began her career with Supply and Services Canada in Ottawa and Hull, Quebec, where she obtained certification in staffing (recruitment and selection) from the Public Service Commission of Canada and certification in staff relations from the Treasury Board. In 1983, she joined Veterans' Affairs in P.E.I. as an internal auditor. She subsequently moved to the private sector as Manager, Personnel and Industrial Relations, Atlantic Region, for VS Services Ltd., a national food service company. In 1987, she was appointed Director of Personnel for the Metropolitan Authority in Dartmouth where she obtained certification in customer service training. Three years later, she became Director of Human Resources for the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission. In June of 1993, Amery accepted a contract as Director of Human Resources for the City of Halifax. She obtained her Masters in Business Administration from Saint Mary's University in 1993. From 1996 to 1998, she was a member of the part time faculty of the Department of Management at Saint Mary's University where she taught staffing, staff development, organizational behaviour and wage and salary administration to third and fourth year Commerce students under the Human Resources Certificate Program.

Amery is currently CAO for the Town of Annapolis Royal. She was formerly a panel member for the Labour Management Forum of Voluntary Planning, and past Chair of the provincial Human Resource Sector Committee. She is also past president of the Human Resources Association of Nova Scotia. Amery's areas of specialization include strategic business planning, process review, organizational design, and research and presentation of specialized subject matter in the human resource field.

Amery is currently a member of the Interim Assessment Board and recently participated in an exchange mission to Guyana to work on human related municipal issues.
